A very oddball run this morning. Tuesday’s track workout was admittedly light, so a recovery run on Wednesday morning didn’t make a ton of sense. Therefore, I did 8 miles at an easy pace (8:16). I felt good during and after the run … until this morning. My sleep issues were put to the side for at least one night. When the alarm went off at 5:40am, I felt like I’d been hit with a bat and drugged. Even after I got dressed, I debated whether bagging the run and going back to bed. Kind of bizarre. Not since the pitch black, sub-zero winter has the urge to be lazy overwhelmed me. Strange. Must have been a deep sleep.
This morning’s run was pedestrian for the most part. It had slog elements to it … feel like you are going faster than reality, sweating buckets in the re-appearing humidity, etc. What was different is that once I left the flat reservoir after the 2nd loop, I headed down to the bumpier outer reservoir to complete the recovery run. Interestingly, my pace quickened. Logic would suggest that you move faster (or the effort would be easier) on a flatter surface, but I peaked at the watch and saw the pace drop by 10 seconds per mile. It could be that it took longer to loosen up or I slightly accelerated on the very modest downhills on the outer loop. At any rate, 6 miles @ 8:37 pace.
