Welcome to CPTC …

It had to happen some time.  Last night, it happened.  Step up or shut up.  Let’s walk thru it. Continue Reading

Probably got your attention with that title … Ha!  I will admit early on that I’m not sharing the training plan in its entirety in this post.  If that’s what you are looking for … sorry.  A few reasons: Continue Reading

Balls

Sometimes an experience hits you at the right time and place and becomes meaningful instantly … below is one of those experiences.  Lauren Fleshman … a pro who runs with the Oregon Elite Track Club and just missed the 2008 Olympic team with a foot injury, surprisingly won the 800m at the 2010 USA Outdoor National Championship on Friday night in Des Moines, IA. Welcome Back …

It brings me great sadness to announce that I am back in New York City.  Since the family could not fit in a Fed Ex box slated for for Palo Alto, I had to return.  Bleh.  Still, I was committed to taking the positive vibes generated in the Bay Area and put them to use for the CPTC Thursday Night tempo.  I owed it to myself to have a decent workout in CP considering my last attempt … Continue Reading

24 in 24

The elephant in the room post-Tuesday’s double for 15m would be how the legs would respond after a good night of minimal sleep.  I had every intention of getting to bed by 9pm, but it just did not happen.  Assorted distractions, principally packing for the return flight to NYC (which is not happening because I AM NEVER LEAVING PALO ALTO!) and answering email, etc. conspired against enjoying a big time night of slumber.  If memory serves, I powered off the devices around 11:15 and probably dozed off 30 minutes later.  As usual, I woke up 4:30am, well before the alarm.  I refused to get up and eventually fell back asleep and started the day at more rationale hour – 5:45am. Circling Stanford

So if I hate LA, I loves me some Bay Area. I could very easily live here. The climate is perfect. It’s breathtakingly picturesque. It’s very much an outdoor, adventure, endurance culture. And I’m a not so-closeted tech-geek. For this trip, I’m actually stationed in Palo Alto … satisfying the last of the aforementioned “loves” – technology. While the day was jam-packed with meetings, I managed to squeeze in some quality running. Continue Reading

I Hate LA?

I’m “Live from Los Angeles!!!”  I heard that somewhere once, and it always stuck.  Maybe it was a radio station or a sports announcer.  Well, not “live” since this is post is reporting yesterday’s news, but you get the idea.  My work travels have taken me to LA.  Since I controlled the schedule, you know I had to fit in some quality run time.  This is especially the case after the DNF.  Actually, I scheduled the trip a few weeks ago not even realizing I had a race on the would-be travel day.  Dumb.  Being Father’s Day, the family was none too pleased with this development, but what was done was done.  So off I went, missing the family, but very glad to put the DNF and generally feelings of beat down behind me for new environs. Race Report: Father’s Day 5-Miler for Prostate Cancer

DNF.  I’ll just put it out there.  There is no need to have a long drawn out build up to the conclusion of DID NOT FINISH.  I’m not blaming the weather.  It was hot and humid for everyone out there.  I was 50-50 on pulling the plug on the race as I lay in bed at 6:45am for a 7:15 departure to CP.  I stretched and did the normal pre-race stuff, but I was just not feeling it.  Eat, Drink, Run had a brilliant post about listening to her intuition a couple of weeks ago post-Brooklyn Half.  Her intuition said rest, her conscious self ignored the advice and she paid a price on a Thursday night tempo run.  As you all know, I generally give my intuition the middle finger and forge ahead.  Yesterday, the intuition broke that middle finger and shoved it up my …. Surviving the Corporate Challenge

“I’m not doing that again!”  My instant reaction (I think it was verbal) after crossing the finish line of the J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge last night.  3.5 miles of ducking and dodging 8,000 semi-runners, walkers, plodders and the dead.  Gah! Continue Reading
