I should be a bit more accurate. Tomorrow’s race is not the culmination of five months of non-race training. It’s only the beginning / benchmark … which is especially true as I’ve only incorporated one speed run with the running club thus far. I fully expect my performance to ratchet up significantly after twice a week workouts with CPTC.
I’m still pretty mellow heading into tomorrow morning. It’s my 10th race so I kind of know what to expect with logistics, the course, etc. That said, I enjoyed my very brief shakeout run (2.36 miles) after a rest day yesterday. Tomorrow I anticipate waking up early, down a cappuccino, take care of any irrigation business, stretch and jog over to the park for an 8:00am start. Race time temps are expected in the mid-30’s … so that is definite shorts weather. Although, I’ll likely wear some sweatpants that were headed to charity and discard them since standing around in the corral in the cold is not a great way to start up.
The only open items are to finish off the meatballs and spaghetti I had for lunch and get a decent night of sleep. Neither should be too problematic (I’m not really eating any different than I would the night before a regular LR). Ha!
Thanks for all your well wishes and great advice. I’ll post a race report as soon as I get back. We’ll see what happens.
