I just could not get out of bed this morning. Part of the reason is I woke up in the middle of the night and couldn’t fall back asleep until early this morning. I didn’t hit the streets until 6:55am. LATE!!! Day was breaking as I took my first step. Thank goodness all is quiet at the office during this holiday week and I could slip in later without any issues.
The plan was a partial tempo, but the legs said “we’re not in the mood today.” Rather than fight, I gave in and went for a little distance on a route I have not tried in a couple of weeks. It was cold again, but with minimal wind so it was bearable. Despite my legs not wanting to go fast, it was still a solid workout. After finishing my warm up on the Reservoir, I banged out a couple of loops around the extended Bridle Path up to 102nd St. transverse back around the southern portion at 84th St. before running home. I felt pretty good. I wasn’t working hard but the rolling hills make you put in a bit of effort which is always good.
In all, a nice training run. 8 miles at 8:42 (exact pace as yesterday – go figure). Who knows what the weather will be like on race day. So experiencing all of this unpleasant cold, wind and rain is solid resistance training.
Tomorrow is the last running day of the year! Also, I’ll publish the year-end / 2010 goals blog post as well. After re-reading it, on the 2010 goals, I am convinced that I’ve completely lost my mind.
