Well, that was fast. Sunday I was in shorts taking care of the intervals business. This morning I was back to double layers. Old Man Winter reappeared with a vengence today. 11* with the wind chill including gusts up to 20 mph. Good times. Despite all that, I definitely have struck the right balance with protective gear and still feeling light. That is until the last lap.
I felt shockingly alert at 6:15am when I stepped foot outside. I hit my rhythmn early in the run and had none of the usual first run of the week effects. I took it easy on this run. The wind pushed me around a bit, but only in a few locations. I won’t lie. Having that wind at your back for a few seconds is nice. I banged through a couple laps around the Reservoir and moved to the Bridle Path when daylight broke. My pace was easy. No pushing it in those winds.
Even my hands held up well until the last lap. It wasn’t terrible, but annoying nonetheless. I tried to shake them to get the blood moving, but to no avail. Then I saw a guy flying by in shorts with NO gloves. Hats off to that joker. He must be a decendent of Eskimos or polar bears.
Good run. 7.84 miles @ 8:42. Monthly goal is in sight with 2 days left to go.
