Reacquainted with a Frenemy

Looking back at my running log, I had not done intervals since December 1st.  That is too much time in between speed workouts.  Therefore, even though I hit double digits less than 20 hours ago, I had Yasso’s on the morning docket.  Oh, joy.  I know I have a looooooongggggg way to go to hit my goal pacing, so speedwork has to become much more apart of the weekly routine.  I’m thinking Sunday’s for intervals and another day during the week for a partial tempo.

An otherwise unexciting workout was made much more enjoyable as a result of yesterday’s rain.  The Bridle Path was cleared of snow and surprising holds water very well.  As such, after a couple mile warm-up, I hit the dirt for the 800’s.  Results:

1st:            3:25

2nd:            3:29

3rd:            3:28

4th:            3:27

5th:            3:31

6th:            3:27

My reaction … eh.  I’m pleased with the tight range from start to finish, which indicates that I am controlling the speed better.  Unfortunately, I would have liked to add 2 more, but the energy just was not there.  I was pretty tired at the end, which means I’m out of shape with speedwork.  Yassos’ = Unpleasant, but are absolutely necessary.  Total: 7.36 miles including warm-up and cool down.

Practice makes perfect.  I’ll be back at it next Sunday.
