After yesterday’s rough outing, I woke up today in attack mode. I won’t call yesterday’s 14 “junk” miles because for the first 10-11, it was a pretty solid run. However, I walked home with a sour taste in my mouth. I know. Some days, it just doesn’t go your way.
Today, I was determined to resist the urge to bust out a double-digit mile follow-up for redemption … the motivation was definitely present. I was angry. However, after suffering from burnout following huge miles in October, I promised myself to mellow out for November … even cut back in the last few days if necessary. Therefore, I had to balance the angry run syndrome and managing the mileage load.
Uncertain of the physical toll yesterday might have taken, I settled on the flat Reservoir Path for a few loops. Other than dodging the many, many tourists who stop for photo ops, it was a smart move. No leg strain. Just picking them up and putting them down. I added a loop on the Bridle Path and ran home for a total of 5.4 miles. My pace was good at 8:19 … faster than easy, slower than tempo. It let me work out some aggression, but not at the risk of adding senseless, energy draining miles.
Once I arrived at home I started feeling really good … kind of energized. It was that feeling of satisfaction even if the miles were low for the day. I needed today to make yesterday a distant memory. Imagine that … me happy with a shorter distance.
Question: I’m looking at picking up a Fuel Belt rather than a hand-held water bottle. I like my hands free, but am not excited about adding something around my waist.
