No Ill Effects from Gluttony

Since I started running, I only over eat twice a year … Thanksgiving and Christmas.  When I say over eat, I generally mean have a meal at regularly scheduled time and then following that up with a 2nd meal within a few hours and then likely double down on dessert later.  Yesterday was no exception.  However, to combat the expected intake of grub I did run 9 miles before we sat down for dinner.  Precautionary measures!  I’d be interested in your perspective, but on the other 363 days a year, I am usually slightly hungry all the time.  Not ravenous, but closer to an empty stomach than full.  Last night, I went to bed not stuffed, but certainly filled with all the goodies my wife made for dinner and dessert.  I’m very thankful for her and the blessings our entire family has received.

I awoke this morning wondering what the consequences would be for such gluttony.  That being said, I’m starting to like my Friday morning runs.  Why?  Assuming I hit my general mileage goals for Tues-Thurs, I reward myself with a quick 5-miler on Friday.  These runs are intended to be relaxing and a nice bridge between the higher daily miles earlier in the week and the LR on Saturday.

Not much excitement surrounding the run itself.  It was a bit chillier than it has been lately … overcast, 47* with a strong wind.  It took a couple of miles to loosen up, but I managed a strong finish for a total of 5 miles at 8:29.  I was pleased with the run because I was able to maintain a relaxed pace and then slightly accelerate for a negative split without much effort.  Sometimes shorter distances are more satisfying than LRs.  I went out with that “get it done and get home” mentality.  Mission accomplished.

How was your post-Thanksgiving Day run?
