Thoughts on NYT Article: Don’t Like Plodders, Get Faster

I read a disturbing article in this today’s New York Times, entitled “Plodders Have a Place, but Is It in a Marathon?” A couple of quotes really set me off: Continue Reading

Slow Start, Faster Finish

Earlier this month, it felt like we skipped fall altogether as temps dipped into the 30’s and 40’s.  This week we are getting a much-appreciated reprieve with temps in the 50s and low 60’s. Continue Reading

Fast Times

Perfect weather … 53* and sunny.  Broke out the short-sleeved shirt and gloves this morning.  So inspired that I snapped a pic. Continue Reading

Taking My Frustration Out on the Hills

I can understand why many runners hate/avoid rest days.  After six straight days on the road/trails, Monday was my scheduled rest day.  As I mentioned to Marathon Maiden in the comments, while I felt strong running over the weekend, yesterday I was sluggish, stiff and sleepy.  Before I went to bed I was thinking about what was in store for my first run of the week (today). Milestone Sunday

I intended a very easy recovery run this morning … preferably on the trails, but Mother Nature was not too accommodating.  It rained all night in NYC, so the trails were muddy / semi-treacherous.  It was mild at 43*, but with 11 mph winds and rain.  Therefore, I decided to stretch at home and start running immediately (no leisurely walk to the park, then stretch).  Get out, get going and get home! Cold, “Fun” Run

Alrighty, this weather business is just getting ridiculous.   I woke up and checked weather.com to find NYC temps @ 38* w/ a wind chill of 29* and continued rain.  It’s October 16th!  Are you kidding me?  This isn’t Chicago.  Therefore, it took a bit of mental gymnastics to select the appropriate running gear this morning.  With the fear of cold rain / potential sleet, I went for the Big Dog: Continue Reading

The Return of Yassos!

It was PERFECT running weather this morning … 43*, 2 mph wind and sunny.  It was chilly enough that I grabbed the gloves AND the fleece running cap, but kept it real with running shorts.  At some point I need to get tights, but that will wait until I decide on new kicks … Brooks Launch are looking pretty, pretty, pretty good right now  (Larry David reference) Continue Reading
